The competences to be certified


ZW Ambassador competences:

  • Understanding what is zero waste, what is Zero Waste City and why it’s important

  • Understanding what are preferred waste management and treatment options (Zero Waste hierarchy)

  • Ability to work with waste data and understanding the importance of data

  • Understanding what are waste prevention and reduction methods and why are they important

  • Ability to apply zero waste principles to different practical contexts

  • Knowledge of different important zero waste stakeholders and how to engage them

  • Ability to lead and spread the zero waste philosophy

  • Ability to assess one’s own skill level in being a Zero Waste Ambassador


The competences are based and developed through the ZW Ambassador Curriculum.

Become a MiZA mentor

A Zero Waste ambassador certificate is the entry requirement for the MiZA mentor's course for the Zero Waste Cities Certification. The mentors and auditors will guide European Cities towards zero waste and get paid for the work.

Certified Zero Waste Trainer, mentor and facilitator with a wealth of training and managing different zero waste projects for different target groups.

Kadri Kalle

Education programme manager at Let’s Do It Foundation, based in Estonia. One of the creators of Zero Waste Trainer and Ambassador curricula and the authors of Zero Waste Training Handbook. MSc in environmental sciences, supplemented by basics in educational psychology.
